We invite you to a commemorative walk, combined with the presentation of an open-air exhibition on the Ghetto Heroes Square.
On October 28, 1942, the Germans carried out another deportation from the Krakow ghetto to the Bełżec extermination camp as part of the so-called Reinhardt campaign. Jewish orphans with caregivers, hospital patients, elderly people and all those deemed “unnecessary” by the occupier were deported. At the time, there was no family in the ghetto who did not lose a loved one. Those who survived recalled that after the end of the action, emptiness blew from every angle.
During the walk we will pass around the borders of the reduced ghetto, we will reach those places in the Podgórze area, which played a special role during the October events. We will read the accounts of people who were in these places that day and where they often saw their loved ones for the last time. We will learn the story of their survival and loss. Together we will consider how to nurture the memory of these events in the vibrant everyday urban space.
Teacher: Katarzyna Kocik
Please note: in case of rain, the walk will be replaced by a thematic tour dedicated to the October deportation after the permanent exhibition at the Apothecary under the Eagle.
