This image wants to move — 2nd edition of the forum on the future of experimental film and video art

We invite you to the second edition of the forum on the future of experimental film and video art “This image wants to move”, which will be held on November 7, 2026 at the U—Jazdowski Kino at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw.

The event is an opportunity both for international exchange of expertise and creative experiences, as well as for the meeting of film and video art environments, in which the worlds of moving image and visual arts intersect. The forum will be held for the second time in the Ujazdowski Castle CSW, where thinking about the creation and distribution of experimental film can take place outside the established schemes, unusually, communally.

This year, during the forum, we will discuss both the forms of bottom-up distribution and the identity of experimental and artistic films. Together we will consider, among other things, what such naming entails, how institutions, art universities or film schools relate to this creative area; under what patch or slogans the title moving image functions in the festival circulation and what functions it fulfills. We will also talk about how the way to determine or position one's own practice and its environmental perception looks like. To participate in the second edition of the forum “This image wants to move” we invite all those involved in the creation, production, distribution, criticism and support of experimental film and video art, both from these backgrounds and from the field of visual arts or academia. We want to initiate a broad debate and get to know each other people who support the development of alternative forms and narratives in the moving image.
