Terence Stamp stars as a strikingly handsome and mysterious stranger who inserts himself into the lavish lives of a wealthy Milanese family. As each member of the household falls under his seductive spell, they are drawn into an alluring world of debilitating lust and existential turmoil. Pasolini tells a story of metaphysical temptation drenched in sex, religion, and bold Marxist commentary.
Provocative and otherworldly, Teorema’s exhibition was blocked by the Catholic Church for its perceived degeneracy. However, unlike many other conventional tales of bourgeois depravity, the answers do not come easy in Teorema. Instead, Pasolini trades in straightforward interpretation for mystical ambiguity, hiding revelations in the discomfort of the uncertain.
This screening will be introduced by season curator Aisha Rattan.
