West Virginia, end of the 1980s: The rebellious Christy (Sydney Sweeney) defies all petty-bourgeois conventions of the American province and does not allow herself to be banned from speaking up. To the displeasure of her conservative mother (Merritt Wever), she also demonstrates her powerful talent in the boxing ring. With unbridled energy, clenched fists and hard-hitting discipline, the young woman quickly attracts attention in this male-dominated world. When experienced trainer and manager Jim Martin (Ben Foster) takes her under his wing, she becomes the knockout queen who will soon fill large arenas. Even privately, the two become a couple and get married. But behind the scenes, their relationship develops into a real nightmare. Jim, suspicious and possessed of power, controls her every move and finances his extravagant lifestyle with her prize money.
