The Blues Brothers Music Show

“We're on a mission from God”

The Blues brothers were born on stage, not on screen. Dressed in black suits, hats and dark glasses, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd made themselves known as crazy but utterly serious lovers of soul and rhythm and blues. And before Hollywood made them a cinematic legend, they just walked on stage and starred.

In the fall of 1978, they recorded Briefcase Full of Blues, an album recorded entirely live, which peaked at the top of the Billboard charts a few weeks later. The two comedians were played by the musical aristocracy of soul from Stax — Steve Cropper and “Duck” Dunn, the people who recorded the originals of these songs alongside Otis Redding.

And that's why Briefcase Full of Blues hasn't aged a day. This is the album where this music goes back to the source.

On October 31, the same spirit returns to the stage of the Varieté Theater.

The Blues Brothers Music Show plays this music as it was created — live, in its entirety, by a band that listens to each other. From the opening “I Can't Turn You Loose”, to “Soul Man”, to the numbers that the audience knows by heart. Nothing from the tape, nothing from the playback. Energy is born between the people on stage — from a band that becomes one through that evening.

Eleven people on stage: two male voices, backing vocals, wind section, keyboards, guitar, bass and drums. Everyone hears everyone — and you can hear it.

Because this is no ordinary concert. It's a mission. As the brothers used to say, “We're on a mission from God.”
