The Chains originated as a one-off marking of Terry Hall's importance to ska music, but the project quickly evolved into something far more permanent. After a memorial concert at the Flea, it was clear that the chemistry between the band members could not be accommodated in only one night.
The band brings together musicians from several generations of the Danish ska and reggae scene and builds on a shared love for the genre's energy, community and DIY spirit. With names from Leo & The Lineup, The Courettes, Napoleon Solo, Von Dü and Fall Back Down, The Chains have decades of experience from both the Danish and international music scene.
Although the starting point was tributes to Terry Hall and The Specials, they quickly began writing their own material. The result was their debut album 'Crying On The Dancefloor' from 2024, followed by 'Be Careful What You Wish For' in 2026. Both releases have attracted attention far beyond Denmark's borders and placed The Chains among the most talked about contemporary names on the international ska scene.
On stage, the band combines classic two-tone ska, reggae and soul with strong melodies, sharp arrangements and an infectious joy of playing. The Chains are a band created by musicians who themselves missed this very sound and who chose to create it themselves. It is music that is made to be played loudly, shared with others and danced to.
