One of Canada's finest folk-roots names harmonizes VEGA
The concert has moved to from Lille VEGA to Ideal Bar. Already purchased tickets are still valid.
One is to stand on the shoulders of a tradition, another is to contribute and renew the same tradition.
Such is the case with the folk group The Deep Dark Woods. The band are unmistakably aware of their genre kinship with names like Bob Dylan, Bert Jansch, Rick Danko and Jason Molina, but manage to seek inspiration, process it and give it new, fresh life.
For nearly two decades, The Deep Dark Woods have sparkled as one of Canada's finest folk-roots names with a career that has featured separably successful albums and singles. And now there's news again from lead singer Ryan Boldt and co.
The latest release is titled The Circle Remains (2025). An album in which Ryan Boldt's eminent vocals soar effortlessly and sensitively through the album's 11 songs. The release also received a few heartfelt words along the way from the Canadian folk and roots media, Roots Music Canada:
“The Circle Remains lingers in quiet devastation, letting each song unfold at a deliberate pace. It aches, comforts, and haunts in equal measure, leaving listeners with a heavy chest and a softened heart”.
The touching and heartbreaking is also, to that extent, a songwriting outlet that Boldt often enjoys exploring. Even when he's not making music. In a press release, he says:
“It's all I do. When I'm not playing music, I'm listening to it, trying to find songs that make me feel an aching pain in my chest.”
On October 7, the audience can therefore expect an evening in the company of The Deep Dark Woods and the sound of new, tradition-bound folk and with a lump in their throats.
