From sold-out tours to chart-topping success. The Howlers are back with a new dark chapter!
“The Howlers take you on a hellish journey that is both emotional and gripping.” — Rolling Stone
“How can you not foresee a bright future for them?” — Classic Rock
“Leather Outsiders with a Cigarette in Their Teeth” — Clash
After returning in 2025 with the singles “Night Crawling” and “You Can Be So Cruel”, as well as signing a contract with independent label FLG, the London-based indie rock band The Howlers present a new single “Viper”. The release of the song is accompanied by the announcement of the band's second album, “Heavy”, which will be released on October 9. It is a bold, intense artistic declaration and the beginning of the most important chapter in the history of the group.
Fueled by a pulsating riff, an uncompromising rhythm section, and raw, unbridled energy, “Viper” showcases The Howlers at their most direct. It's indie rock'n'roll based on desire and consequence.
Frontman Adam Young talks about the new single this way: “Viper” is about the experience of being totally attracted to someone even though you can see all the red flags perfectly. About our tendency to consciously make bad decisions for the sheer thrill of it, no matter the consequences. You are lost in the moment together with the other person. But no matter how hard you try to believe in the Bonnie and Clyde fantasy, in the end it will end in pain anyway.
After a period of change at the end of 2024, The Howlers entered a new phase of activity. Adam Young rebuilt the project as a duo with drummer Toby Richards, which significantly influenced both the band's sound and its creative direction, bringing a new identity and greater artistic clarity. This restart came after a breakthrough period for the team. Their debut album “What You've Got To Lose To Win It All” was met with an enthusiastic reception in Europe, reaching the Top 10 of the UK Independent Breakers chart, as well as scoring high on the sales charts of independent, vinyl and physical releases. The band has also garnered support from media such as BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Radio X and Absolute Radio, and has also appeared on international editorial playlists on Spotify and Apple Music.
Momentum quickly translated into concerts. A sold-out, 18-gig UK tour established The Howlers as one of the most exciting touring bands on the stage. The group then went on a European tour, selling out shows in eight countries.
While the debut was firmly rooted in personal loss and bereavement, “Heavy” grows out of completely different emotions. It's an album built on the tension between desire and consequence, recklessness and reality. It is driven by nocturnal impulses, the temptation of spontaneous decisions and the cool awareness that comes later. The album was created in collaboration with longtime creative partner Chris Ostler (Black Honey). The band deliberately abandoned the traditional model of studio work — the material was created remotely, exchanging demos, ideas and rearranged compositions. Only at the final stage did the musicians enter the rehearsal room to record live drum parts, adding physical, raw energy to the material.
Young adds: This album is all about late-night experiences, after-dark conversations, calls at weird times, the seductive nature of impulsivity that feels so enticing, and losing yourself in addictive recklessness. But it is also a look in the mirror the next morning, a violent awakening and the realization that these feelings do not last forever. This is the moment when you find yourself all over again.
For a band that has built its identity on sincerity from the beginning and has amassed an exceptionally devoted fan community, “Heavy” feels like the album The Howlers have been aiming for forever. After the premiere, the band will go on a tour of the UK and Europe. Everything indicates that 2026 will be a real breakthrough year for The Howlers.
The single “Viper” is now available on all streaming services. The album “Heavy” will be released on October 9, 2026.
