One of the dark jazz scene's most distinctive and innovative names soars in VEGA
For more than two decades, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble have been senders of music that feels like little dreamlike circuits where the line between the surreal and the real becomes blurred and dissolved.
The band will be in the spotlight at Lille VEGA on October 27, where the audience is invited into a hypnotic universe where ambient, doom, jazz, post-rock and experimental electronica merge into dark and mood-saturated compositions.
Founded in 2000 by Jason Köhnen and Gideon Kiers, the project took its first steps as live interpretations of silent film classics such as Metropolis and Nosferatu. From that point of view, the ensemble grew creatively and quickly grew to become one of the most prominent and innovative names in the dark jazz scene.
With Hilary Jeffery (trombone and effects), Charlotte Cegarra (vocals) and Eelco Bosman (guitar) as part of the constellation, the group developed a distinctive musical expression in which collective improvisation and cinematic aesthetics go hand in hand.
The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble is particularly known for their intense live concerts, where abstract film projections and dreamy visuals merge with the ensemble's dark and atmospheric soundscapes.
As they lay the road past VEGA, a concert is laid out that takes the form of an alluring and enigmatic universe.
