After a totally sold out concert in 2016, 'CELEBRATING THE LAST WALTZ' finally returns to the Royal Theatre's iconic Old Stage.

About the event

With an authentic and personal homage to one of the most mythical concerts in rock history with music by The Band, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, among others.

“THE END OF AN ERA”

On Thanksgiving Day in 1976, The Band gave their legendary farewell concert The Last Waltz in San Francisco — a musical highlight that brought together a number of the very greatest musical icons of the time on the same stage, including Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton and many more. The concert, which supposedly put an end to the 'Woodstock era' of the '60s and '70s, was perpetuated by film director Martin Scorsese and still stands as one of rock history's most seminal nights.

50TH ANNIVERSARY

In 2016, 'Celebrating The Last Waltz' filled the Royal Theatre's Old Stage to breaking point. Now — ten years later — the 15-man orchestra returns to mark the 50th anniversary of The Last Waltz with a unique and magnificent tribute concert in a beautiful and traditional setting.

In prostrate respect for the originalmaterial, a number of country's strongest voices and musicians present classics such as The Weight, I Shall Be Released andThe Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. The audience can look forward to an evening where the music and spirit are brought to life in new, present interpretations — with nerve, authenticity and infectious playfulness.

CELEBRATING THE LAST WALTZ is more than a concert. It's a musical ritual, a celebration and a musical celebration -- a rare chance to relive one of rock history's most mythical evenings in the country's most beautiful concert hall.

THE TEAM BEHIND

The concert at the Royal Theatre is presented by the team behind, among others, WOODSTOCK '69 - A Tribute Concert (2019), The Art of Joy in Chorus (2022) and Joni Mitchell — A Tribute Concert (2023), all of whom have played sold-out concerts at the Royal Danish Theatre and toured throughout the country.

The contributing soloists and musicians count profiles who over the years have played with everything from Johnny Madsen, Poul Krebs, Peter Belli, Erik Clausen, Henning Stærk, Birthe Kjær and many, many more.

THE PRESS WROTE

“... a true music explosion (...) Uhrban Stöjband laid the bottom all evening and it was a fabulous bottom. They have so much control over the music and their instruments that it almost completely hurts”

Rune Weitling, The Messenger

“Uhrban Stöjband swung formidably as the rootstock and the bottom throughout. In fact, the performances were so great that there were a lot of damp eyes in the theater hall (...) Then you can only hope that the musicians think it was so much fun that they get to do a tour together so that others can enjoy the show. At least I know someone around here who likes to travel with me.”

Henrik Flohr, Esbjerg Weekly

“... the result was amazing and went well with the audience, who both nights filled the hall”

Jesper Orry, JyskeWest Coast
