Meetings van Anna

Anna, a successful filmmaker, travels from city to city to present her latest film, and train compartments, stations, hotel rooms and the streets of the night become the temporary spaces she inhabits along the way. Akerman captures the locations in images that have a particularly luminous glow, while constantly being on the verge of tipping over into the inanimate. A distinctive living space arises because people, urban spaces and interiors appear detached from their habitual contexts. Along the way, Anna meets strangers, lovers and acquaintances, who tell her about their lives. She listens, considers and moves on. She visits her mother — an encounter that both displaces and intensifies the emotional connections that the film establishes between the characters.
