The Mountain Goats

The group, which over four decades has left an indelible imprint on the American people, released the album “Through This Fire Across from Peter Balkan” on November 7, 2026, and on October 10, 2026, John Darnielle & co. will perform at the Pump House.

A lot has happened since 1991. But through all the years, The Mountain Goats have been a constant on the alternative American folk scene, led by the formidable songwriter and poetically fabulating lyricist John Darnielle, who for part of the group's lifetime was its only member.

From being a distinctly lo-fi project at the beginning of their career, The Mountain Goats have evolved their expression to embrace a larger and more orchestrated sound. Not least on major works such as “Tallahassee” (2002), “The Sunset Tree” (2005), “Heretic Pride” (2008) and “The Life of the World to Come” (2009).

In total, the long-lived band have released their 23rd studio album, including their newest addition. “Through This Fire Across from Peter Balkan” will be released on November 7 and is dedicated to longtime bassist Peter Hughes, who left the group in 2024.

The title appeared from Darnielle's subconscious in a dream. It became the starting point for an album they themselves describe as a “full-on musical” (Darnielle loved musicals when he was a child) and their most conceptually detailed album to date. An embracing and sumptuous work whose melodies and orchestral compositions set new standards for an already respectable discography.

The latest additions to the song catalogue will of course also be aired live, and on this occasion The Mountain Goats happily tour Denmark. On October 10, 2026, the audience can thus look forward to experiencing the American folk legends live live in Pumpehuset.
