Gilbert and Sullivan
Beauty, duty, pirates & police; wit & sparkling songs in one of the great pieces of musical theatre
Award-winning JLOS returns to Questors with a Gilbert and Sullivan favourite, The Pirates of Penzance.
Frederic is a pirate, but only because of a misheard word, but now he’s come of age and finished his apprenticeship he thinks he can leave the band of pirates. But a quirk of fate means that he is still theoretically bound by his contract and his sense of duty ensures it. The pirates take a fancy to the daughters of a major-general, who doesn’t like the idea of them as sons-in-law. The major-general escapes the gullible pirates by lying, and later feels bad about it, but not so bad that he doesn’t send the Cornish police in pursuit of them.
Enjoy Gilbert’s witty words and Sullivan’s sparkling music in a traditional production with live orchestra and bespoke set, and see how it all works out in the end.
