Jean and Otto, a French newspaperman and a young German Francophile, are committed to preserving peace in Europe. Jean’s daughter, Corinne, is embarking on a promising acting career when war breaks out and France falls under German occupation. As the country is transformed, the two friends assume pivotal roles in the new political order: Jean becomes a powerful press baron and an outspoken advocate of collaboration, while Otto is appointed the Reich’s Ambassador to Paris. Based on the real story of Jean and Corinne Luchaire, a father and daughter caught up in the machinery of collaboration, The Rays and Shadows is the disturbing new film by Xavier Giannolli (Lost Illusions), starring Jean Dujardin.
