About the event

The Warmth of Other Suns opens up a sensuous science fiction universe where bodies, light, sound and movement merge into powerful visual tableaus. In the grand stage space of the Dance Halls, Sophia Mage unfolds a world beyond the one we know — and an existence that extends far beyond man.

In The Warmth of Other Suns, we meet three galactic wanderers in the distant future, where the boundaries between body, matter and the cosmos are constantly changing. Thousands of years old and charged with the light of a dying sun, they struggle with their changing physical form and a drift toward moving from matter to light.

Primeval and at the same time almost tragically naive, they move between surrender and resistance, from star to star, from memory to moment -- repeating, reducing, winding in and out.

With science fiction as its setting, the work imagines a species that lives on long after a collapse -- and a future in which sentient intelligence eventually turns to stardust under the heat of other suns.

Sophia Mage (DK/US) is a dancer, choreographer and teacher based in Copenhagen. Sophia works with performance from a worldbuilding approach. She often works with a fictional sense of being and place to gently shift the atmosphere toward the unsettling. Themes such as anger, transcendence, abjection, euphoria, feminine sensuality, and dualism permeate her work. Embracing apparent contradictions, she oversaturates, dissolves, and reimagines the human experience. Transformation is central to her practice and aesthetics. Her process is marked by the meeting of intuition, improvisation, and coincidences that arise through the mediums she works with. All this with an eye for an immediate and broad appeal, so that the finished work appears inviting in itself with a rich underlying intention.

After earning a bachelor's degree in political science and working for an NGO in Oakland, California, she moved to Europe and graduated from The Danish National School for Performing Arts. Over the years, she has collaborated with choreographers, musicians, visual artists, filmmakers and academics on projects of varying scale and ambition. She conducts workshops and teaches for institutions and companies such as The Danish National School for Performing Arts, P.A.R.T.S., Danish Dance Theatre, Ballet de Lorraine and Cullberg. In addition, she has produced and created several works, including Vibrant Matter (2020) and Atmosphere of Decay (2023), and is currently developing The Warmth of Other Suns (2026) and Sea Swine (2027) with Sofia Stål and Mia Milovic. In 2025, she received the Wilhelm Hansen Honorary Fellowship. She is a member of the Copenhagen collective Dance Cooperative.
