The installation There was a time when, not knowing how to live, I took out my entrails to make a net by Jiyoung Yoon takes the form of an extensive network of interwoven intestines made of silicone. Instead of remaining within individuals, the intestines extend outward. They capture bodies and weave them into a common network. The work of art was created in a time of profound loss and heartbreak. Its title is borrowed from an as yet unpublished essay by Yoon, which deals with the question of how people can communicate and connect with each other through painful experiences. In this shared vulnerability, the work finds the opportunity for solidarity.
About the event
In the House of World Cultures, the web of entrails lies horizontally on the ground and invites the audience to step in, lean close and intertwine with the work. Throughout the evening, the audience will be asked questions about topics of protection, solidarity and fear. The collected answers will be tattooed directly onto the work of art over the course of the evening — a record of shared experiences of loneliness and solidarity, which is made visible through contributions from the audience.
