Thieves from Heaven

“Thieves From Heaven” deals with one of the most powerful myths of Yoruba culture: the story of Àbíkú — the “Spirit Child.” This myth is not only an integral part of Yoruba cosmogony, but it is also closely linked to the history of the pre-colonial West African kingdom of Oyo. The interpretation and interpretation of the myth and its stories is as diverse as Nigerian society itself. In this project, a young generation of Nigerian dance artists is now dealing with the myth of ghost children in cooperation with the Christoph Winkler company. They interrogate the stories and their numerous interpretations against the background of their own identity and develop a choreographically inspired work from them.

Christoph Winkler has worked on more than 80 dance pieces as a freelance artist since 1996 and is one of the most distinguished and versatile choreographers in Germany. His work covers a wide range of formats and ranges from very personal to political topics. Under the umbrella of the Christoph Winkler company, he brings together dancers from all over the world to work together as temporary collectives on a wide range of content.
