Passion, young love and deep humanity flow through both Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique and Mozart's concert arias. The music is in the best hands of two outstanding young artists: the conductor Emmanuel Tjeknavorian and one of Denmark's most promising young sopranos, Louise McClelland.

About the event

DR Symphony Orchestra

Berlioz's iconic Symphonie fantastique was both a love letter in symphonic form and a manifesto for a new type of French music driven by intensity, wit and passion.

In 1827, Berlioz discovered Beethoven, Shakespeare and the Irish actor Harriet Smithson. All three had great significance to him—especially Smithson, with whom he fell deeply in love; though they had never met, Berlioz planned to seduce her with an extravagant symphony of love, heroism, and torment. Three years after first construction in 1830, they were married. Under Emmanuel Tjeknavorian's fearless management, one will understand why Smithson said “yes”.

Mozart's visions of love were as sincere as Berlioz's -- albeit a little more nuanced. His concert arias are self-contained songs that explore human relationships and carry some of his most personal emotions. They are sung here by Denmark's most promising young soprano and winner of the P2 Talent Prize 2024, Louise McClelland.
