Full of humor and funny situations, the story tells about the fate of a talented actor who is not quite able to play his role in life.

Michael Dorsey, as we are talking about, in addition to talent, possesses several qualities that annoy potential employers, as well as his loved ones. He does not realize that the perfectionism to which he is guided closes many doors for him, both in his professional work and in his private life. So he decides to get what he wants by trickery.

Dressed as a woman, he applies for a casting and gets the “role of a lifetime” — literally and figuratively. From this moment on, Dorothy Michaels must obey, who, willingly or unwillingly, becomes the alter ego of the protagonist, resulting in many unexpected events. It's hard to reconcile Michael's idea of authenticity with pretending to be someone he's not.

A hilarious comedy is built on this canvas. The crazy ideas, funny situations, mishaps or unexpected twists and turns, together with emotions and the emerging hope “in spite of everything”, make it captivate us without rest. And the New York vibe, great music, catchy songs, captivating scenography, rhythm, movement, fill and enliven the world depicted on every plane.

The musical comedy Tootsie is based on a plot by Don McGuire and Larry Gelbart and a Columbia Pictures film produced by Punch Productions starring Dustin Hoffman.
