With a unique blend of Ghanaian highlife, reggae, dub and soul and roots in Ghana and Denmark, Total Hip Replacement & Anyankofo bring warmth, pulsating grooves and heartwarming wind to the stage. An infectious and festive concert has been set up when Det Ni person large collective hits ALICE in connection with the release of their new album “Ehum” (2027), created with, among others, the West African reggae legend Tiken Jah Fakoly and musicians from Florence Adooni's band and Santrofi. The concert is part of Vinterjazz.
In recent years, the audience has really caught their eye for the hard-to-play highlife collective Total Hip Replacement. The release of the band's first Danish/Ghanaian album “Anyankofo” (2022) led to extensive touring in Europe, South America and West Africa. Both record and live shows received rave reviews in the press, culminating in successful appearances at legendary European festivals such as Bout du Monde and Reggae Jam. Now the band is ready with their second release “Ehum”, which will be released at the start of the new year. The album has been made on the road — through tours, travels in Ghana and jams with musicians from both Ghana and Denmark, including West African reggae legend Tiken Jah Fakoly, Kwame Yeboah and musicians from Florence Adooni's band and Santrofi. The sound is dynamic and hopeful, while the lyrics are direct and revolve around the worrying direction in which the world is moving; after years of friendship and musical exchange, the band goes even deeper into the meeting of their different cultural roots, creating a new shared musical language that is impossible to stand still to.
At the same time, “Ehum” (2027) will be the start of a new great musical journey. First, the tour goes along the West African coast with concerts in Senegal, Ivory Coast and Ghana. Then Europe awaits, where the band will take new impressions, euphoria and great warmth to the Danish venues in February-March 2027. Fortunately, Total Hip Replacement hits ALICE and we can only recommend that you stop by when the nine-person team puts the room in vibrant swing for February.
The concert is part of Vinterjazz 2027 — a nationwide festival that takes place from January 29 to February 28. More info via www.jazz.dk
