“It's something that we can get a lot of attention to, but it doesn't have to be good,” said Robert Talarczyk, director of Tyjatru Ślōnskigo, who is responsible for performing Shakespeare in Slavonic and directing the play. “It is despair: it is a loss of life, because our society is a lost earth, on which we have grown up.” There are still echoes of the presidential veto under the sweeping recognition of the Ślōnský gŏdka as a regional language. This will be presented at a time when, in the course of a legislative period, the situation will clash with the opposite needs of building a Słonsk culture — in Ślōnsk and in Ślōnsk, without complexes or unnecessary questions. “The Tragedy of Hamlet, the Princess of Dinamarck” is born in a way that tells a story of lords, women, wealth and faithfulness may sound even more familiar than the previous one. What will be born from the “old Ślōnska” with the new one?
About the event
“This is neither a reason for special pride, nor even more for shame,” says Robert Talarczyk, director of the Silesian Theater, the originator of the Silesian Shakespeare exhibition and director of the play. “This is not a manifesto or a cry of despair: it is a duty we fulfill to the land on which we grew up,” he adds. There are still echoes of another presidential veto under the law on recognition of Silesian as a regional language. The play is thus created at a time when legislative uncertainty collides with the genuine need to build contemporary Silesian culture — in Silesia and in Silesia, without complexes or unnecessary questions. “The Tragedy of Hamlet, the Prince of Dinamarck” is born at a time when the tale of power, revenge, madness and loyalty has the chance to resonate even louder than ever before. What will be born from the collision of the “old Silesia” with the new?
