The show is part of the EU Creative Europe TRANSPORT project
In the era of globalization and the fast pace of life, air travel has become a symbol of economic growth and freedom of movement. Connecting Flights takes us to the airport — a crossroads of cultures and roads that reveals itself as a microcosm of a globalized world. This transitional space, where dreams of new beginnings intertwine with the reality of human relationships, becomes a powerful metaphor for the complexity of modern society.
The show subtly shows the contrast between the ideals of global connectivity, freedom of movement, equality and openness and the reality of limitations, prejudices, xenophobia and systemic imperfections. In this seemingly limitless space of freedom and relationships, the invisible hierarchies of privilege and power that shape the lives of individuals are revealed.
Through intimate stories set in this transitional space, the show invites reflection on fundamental questions about humanity and how our actions and attitudes shape the world in which we live. It encourages people to recognise their role in this process, to question their own values, to challenge existing systems and to co-create a future based on social equality, solidarity and responsibility.
Transport is an international project by Slovenian director Tin Grabnar, bringing together six theatres from Slovenia, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania and the Czech Republic. The project consists of six diverse performances that are structurally and thematically related; their common starting point is the issue of transport as one of the key foundations of globalisation. The performances take a critical look at the complexity of transport: on the one hand, they highlight its benefits, such as extensive networks that enrich cultural exchange and support economic development, and on the other hand point out its negative consequences. They pay special attention to its destructive impact on the environment, analyze social inequalities and, through intimate, personal stories of the protagonists, open numerous ethical dilemmas.
Each individual performance, characterized by miniature hyper-realistic visualizations and a complex sound layer, acts as an independent work of art, shedding light on specific, pressing problems of modern society. Combined in different configurations — whether as a theatrical series or as a puppet anthology — they further emphasize the interconnectedness of these issues and their global dimension.
Transport is a call for transformation. It encourages us to break with established consumption patterns, shows the consequences of our travel decisions and inspires us to constantly challenge our values in the pursuit of a more just and sustainable society. The project implements a sustainable approach not only in terms of content, but also holistically - at every stage of its implementation it follows guidelines for reducing environmental impact, including the use of energy-efficient solutions, the avoidance of harmful substances, the use of local, sustainable and recycled materials and the optimization of routes. In doing so, he transcends the boundaries of the theatrical experience, becoming a significant subject in a broader social context.
