TRAVIATA

Opera in three acts. The work is performed in the original, Italian language version with Polish subtitles.

“Traviata” with a libretto by Francesco Piave, based on the novel by Alexander Dumas “The Camellia Lady”, was not well received at its premiere in the Venetian theater La Fenice in 1853. The bourgeois audience could not accept that the action of the opera takes place in modern times, and the main character is a courtesan! History has shown that they were wrong: “Traviata” is one of the most staged operas today. By composing “Traviata”, Verdi gave opera literature a record of operatic hits: Brindisi, E'strano, Di Provenza, Addio del passato, Gran Dio... And to the performers of the title role unlimited possibilities for vocal and acting.

This work belongs to the opera classics and every opera house should have it in its repertoire, because unlike the premiere audience, nowadays viewers love the story of Violetta and Alfred and the music of Verdi. Especially the Łódź audience has a great appreciation for Verdi's work and is in love with the story told. The current realization is already the fifth version of this title in our Theater, each was enthusiastically received not only by the audience in Łódź. On stage we will of course see a full set of artists: soloists, choir, ballet and orchestra of the Grand Theatre in Łódź. It is worth checking out how director Pia Partum interpreted the love story of Violetta and Alfred.
