Women in high positions and with a good salary is a fact. But not every guy likes it. Even more so when the promotion comes to a younger colleague from work, who is also a partner in life...
Sebek (Adam Serowaniec), raised in the spirit of equality, has an obvious problem with this. It is he who would like to be the head of the family - a tough and firm man who decides for himself when to pull out the engagement ring. But will the hit Helena (Marta Chodorowska), her mother (Dorota Chotecka/Katarzyna Kwiatkowska) and Sebka's mother (Justyna Sieńczyłło) allow him to do so? Will they find a way to “train” him for the role they envisioned for him?
The comedy “Trained Man” was written by John von Duffel based on Esther Vilar's bestseller “Der dressierte Mann”.
Translation: Karolina Bikont
Set design: Andrzej Lewczuk
Costumes: BOCA by AGATA KOSCHMIEDER
Rarely do you find yourself in the midst of an audience clapping, but above all laughing so often, so vividly. I found myself - at the premiere of the play “Trained Man” at the Kamienica Theater in Warsaw. I was at the premiere — with an obligatory speech by director Emiliano Kamiński before, and a banquet after. As usual, the transparencies reminded of the nine-year history of the tenement house. Private theater, specializing in comedies, farces, popular arts. Making money on himself.
One of the important functions of theater is to get to know the world. Many forms of expression make it possible to achieve this goal, but comedy occupies a special place among them. Thanks to its light form and a large dose of humor and the reality shown with a slight squint, it allows you to look at the world from a greater distance, and sometimes you are too close to the canvas to see the beauty of the picture and you have to move a little away from it to understand the whole. Comedy also allows us - viewers - to take a break from our own problems and move to another world.
The comedy “Trained Man” is a wonderful play that addresses important social issues - the hierarchy of a man and a woman in relation to each other and the problems that a “modern couple” may face. Has the world turned upside down? Or was he always like that? Is it possible to change the social order? Is it possible to change the roles in a relationship that have been constituted over the centuries?
These and many other questions are answered by the author of the play on the assumption that the viewer will want to look at these issues with a slight grain of salt.
These important problems are accompanied by a great acting performance, which favors the transfer to the world of art, where we accompany the actors in creating the magic of the theater.
There are reasons to be happy after the premiere of “Trained Man” at the Kamienica Theater! It all starts with a good text (the play was written by John von Düffel on the motives of the bestseller Esther Vilar). Four people on stage - and fortunately these are not two couples who - as everywhere - exchange partners! It's a completely different story, very life-like — and funny. This is because two young people in love (Helena and Sebek) are faced with a chance of life stability. But how do you survive that she got the job he was hoping for? How not to go crazy when she brings home thirty thousand (without bonuses), and he - ten times less? Add to this two moms from hell who, despite their differences, form a committee to make Helence realize that only the right training of a man gives the foundations of a happy relationship!
This performance is mainly carried by the duo Funa and Koci (Sieńczyłło and Kwiatkowska), they make us laugh not only during the performance, but also after leaving the theater. Each time they come out of the fridge (see for yourself what an original idea for the scenography) turns up the atmosphere.
As it turns out, you don't need much to make a good show, you just need talent, which will not be lacking here in the play Trained Man. On stage, three excellent actresses: Marta Chodorowska, Katarzyna Kwiatkowska, Justyna Sieńczyłło among these graceful ladies, he one Adam Serowaniec, in the role of the Trained Man, but I hope it's definitely about him. The stage space filled with greenery, almost empty, except for the four blocks that depict each of the characters there is nothing. This procedure proves that we do not need much to make a good performance, as you can see you can do without props, and play everything with your whole self.. Also worthy of recognition here are costumes that fully convey the image of the personalities of the characters. Moreover, during the evolution of the art and the behavior of the two main characters, who from time to time put on new different costumes. And so the bathrobe that Sebastian is wearing in this role as Adam Serwaniec in several scenes adds to his charm and warmth, while Marta Chodorowska wears a pink skirt in order to become more feminine. Whether she succeeds in doing so, you can judge for yourself. Everything in this performance is thought out well composed, sensationally rendered by the actors. Viewers definitely buy it, clap, laugh, have fun. And that's what it's all about.
