Trio Laflamme is a chamber ensemble formed in 2013 specializing in the performance of music of the 18th and first half of the 19th century. Flute player Annie Laflamme, pianist Katarzyna Drogosz and cellist Jarosław Thiel, performing at NFM, will therefore reach for just such a repertoire. They will present the recently experienced Renaissance work of Louise Farrenc, the work of the “Lviv Mozart”, as well as the composition of the famous romantic artist closely associated with Wrocław — Carl Maria von Weber.
Born in Paris in 1804, Farrenc had not only a gift (“a talent rare among women,” Berlioz wrote about her) and determination, but also a lot of luck. She grew up in an artistic family and was educated by masters (including Johann Nepomuk Hummel and Antonín Rejcha), and later developed her passion with the support of her husband. She has toured, composed and co-directed the publishing house. In 1842 she became a lecturer at the Paris Conservatory. She was the only woman in such a position in the entire nineteenth century. Her Trio in E minor for flute, cello and piano, Op. 45 is a testament not only to the French woman's distinctive style, but also to her excellent orientation in the possibilities of the three instruments she included in the cast of this work.
Hummel's student was also Franz Xaver Wolfgang Mozart. He is the son of Wolfgang Amadeus himself. His brilliant father, however, died only a little more than four months after the birth of the offspring. Still in his youth, at the age of seventeen, he came to the vicinity of Lviv, the city around which his life was concentrated for the next three decades. Hence the nickname “Lviv Mozart”. In the Galician capital, he not only composed and toured, but also founded a musical society and choir. The work presented by Trio Laflamme was written by an Austrian as the first part of a sonata commissioned from him in 1808. The misleading title Rondo was given to him by Aloys Fuchs, a nineteenth-century music researcher who was dedicated to organizing the author's legacy. He himself, in the context of this work for flute and piano, once shared the following observation about the first of these instruments: “(he) is extremely delicate, which perfectly harmonizes with my rather lyrical nature.” A further relative of the son of the Viennese classic was the German forerunner of Romanticism - Carl Maria von Weber, creator of the opera The Freeman and uncle of Konstanze Weber - the mother of Franz Xaver Wolfgang and the wife of the master himself from Salzburg. The trio in G minor was created largely in parallel with the aforementioned groundbreaking dramatic work. In the final of the composition, which belongs to the modest chamber work of the German, we even find allusions to the famous Freischütz. The suggestive title of the third part — The Shepherd's Complaint — was probably taken from one of the songs of Wilhelm Ehlers, written to the words of Goethe himself.
