Classical chamber music meets microtonal moods, Persian traditions and musical echoes from punk's underground

About the event

What happens when classical chamber music meets microtonal moods, Persian traditions and musical echoes from punk's underground? ALICE invites you to an evening with Trio Terrea and KØLSTER x AKELA, who explore the classical ensemble format in their own way. Featuring a custom-built 31-tone keyboard, Trio Terrea explores new harmonic possibilities, while the award-winning string quartet AKELA interprets Sune Kølster's musical universe, ranging from Arabic-inspired score music to the soundtrack for the American thriller “Speak no Evil” (2024). Round off the season at ALICE with this powerful double-headliner. The concert is supported by the Austrian Embassy.

Trio Terrea

Violin, Cello and microtonal keyboard dazzle in new sonorous worlds as Trio Terrea strikes the tones in a sonic excursion through Persian music traditions and European art music. Led by Iranian pianist Amir Ahmadi, the ensemble's sound is shaped through the purpose-built 31-tone Claviton keyboard — an instrument that, with its alternative vocal systems, opens up entirely new harmonic possibilities. Together with violinist Sarvin Hazin and cellist Anna Maria Niemiec, Amir Ahmadi foregrounds a fluid world of sound where classical traditions meet experimental contemporary music. Expect a concert experience full of magical detail, depth and surprising timbre with Trio Terrea.

KØLSTER x AKELA

The award-winning string quartet AKELA performs the music of acclaimed film composer Sune Kølster. His work and inspirations range from the Copenhagen punk underground in the late 1990s with the legendary band Divine Madness over Greek rembetiko-trance to classical score music with Arabic influences, and he is most recently known for the soundtrack of the American thriller “Speak no Evil” (2024). In the hands of AKELA, Sune Kølster's works are transformed into a beautiful, alluring and disturbing sight at once.

AKELA consists of Clara Glasdam and Gustav Ranum on violin, Kirsten Wilbrandt Kjær on viola and Oskar Reuben Friis-Hansen on cello. The quartet was formed at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in 2019, and over the years has arranged and played concerts of a very different nature — from cross-artistic events with open stage and classical quartet concerts in prominent concert halls to side-by-side concerts with the musical growth layer. In 2024, AKELA received the Leonie Sonning Talent Award, and in 2023 all the quartet's members received the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl Nielsen Talent Prize.
