Isabel Coixet's latest film (“The Book Store of Dreams”, “Life Hidden in Words”) is a subtle ode to life that looks with extraordinary sensitivity at the process of parting, memory and the art of letting go. The main roles were performed by the stars of Italian cinema Alba Rohrwacher and Elio Germano.
The story begins with a trivial argument that ends the long-standing relationship between Marta (Alba Rohrwacher), a teacher, and Antonio (Elio Germano), an ambitious chef. While he throws himself into the whirlwind of building a career, Martha, grieving the loss of love, tries to find the ground beneath her feet. However, when she discovers that her loss of appetite and energy for life has a much deeper root than just an emotional occupation, her world changes drastically. From that moment on, Marta begins to perceive the world in a completely different way. Food acquires a special taste, music moves it differently, and the desire to be happy revives in it the desire to live without fear.
Based on best-selling stories by Italian writer Michela Murgia, Isabel Coixet explores gestures, relationships, and daily rituals that take on new meaning when time starts to count. It avoids melodramatic clichés. Instead, in his distinctive, intimate style, he invites the viewer to observe the “beautiful accident” that is human life.
