The concert program as part of the “Independence Week” is a fascinating journey through the most important currents of Polish music — from romantic opera and virtuoso piano work of the 19th century to the exuberant symphonic music of the 20th century. The works of Stanisław Moniuszko, Fryderyk Chopin, Ignacy Jan Paderewski and Wojciech Kilar show the richness of Polish musical culture, drawing inspiration from folklore, history and national tradition.
The evening will open with an overture to Stanisław Moniuszko's Halka opera — one of the most outstanding creators of Polish national opera. This striking work foreshadows the dramatic events of the opera, combining lyrical melodies with dazzling orchestral passages. Next, Fryderyk Chopin's Fantasia on Polish themes will be played — one of the composer's first concert works. The piece was created out of fascination with Polish folklore and dance tradition. Chopin intertwined folk motifs with a brilliant piano part, creating a work full of grace, virtuosity and nostalgia.
The second part of the program will be filled with the Polish Fantasy of Ignacy Jan Paderewski — an outstanding pianist, composer and statesman. The composition combines romantic momentum with national character, using Polish melodies and dance rhythms. The virtuoso piano part conducts a dialogue with the orchestra, creating a colorful and emotional story about Polish identity. The finale of the concert will be Wojciech Kilar's Krzesany — one of the most recognizable pieces of Polish contemporary music. Inspired by the music and dances of Podhale, the symphonic poem impresses with its power of sound, rhythmic energy and gradually increasing tension, leading to a spectacular ending.
