Types and types — typographic workshops for young people and adults

Feelings are faster than reading. Before we read the text, we already know if something is cheap, expensive, gentle, childish, modern, traditional. Most often, however, we reduce letters to the communication function, typing another message in the messenger or writing a document in Word and wondering why we need so many “fonts” when they all look the same.

During the workshop we will dive into the world of letters and the diversity of their forms. We will confirm or refute the thesis that these graphic signs carry more information than just a record of sound that we know and can pronounce. We will test the influence of the text and what emotional effects we can achieve with different shapes, colors, sizes, etc. Can the “A” warn and the “Z” be so cute that we want to hug them?

Finally, each of us will make a self-portrait of the two letters that define us — our initials. What would our sign look like? Will we be able to tell about ourselves by these two inconspicuous signs? What is your TYPE?

During the workshop we will use simple graphic techniques such as stencils.
