German premiere of the book “Miołak”

The guest of the next installment of the series Mozaika Górnośląska will be Natalia Trojan, author of the book “Miołak”, published by the Silesian Library.

The author's debut literary reportage was devoted to a difficult and important episode from the 20th century history of the city of Tychy: the expropriations preceding the construction of the so-called New Tychy.

The narrative of “Miołaka” unfolds between the Tychy residential meadow and the concrete, between the green axis and the railway, between the famous sculptures, monuments and unusual Tik mosaics that adorn public spaces and memories of their own and collected during meetings with the inhabitants. The material for the melancholy story also becomes a personal herbarium — collected at the same time in the meadow and in the language (the author is also a neurologist) — where the eponymous mealybug flourishes, a peculiar plant-linguistic being from which, between languages and between species, new meanings sprout. In the finale of the book, different identities, old and new inhabitants of Tychy, receive their intriguing metaphor. It becomes a mosaic — one of the symbols of the city, which acquires unexpected meanings here.

Natalia Trojan — neurologist, educator. She lives in Tychy, where she was born and raised. It deals with the relationship of man with space and the search for the truth about places written in the biographical narrative of the people who live in them. Miołak is a story about discovering identity through understanding a difficult part of the city's history, and at the same time the book debut of the German author.
