A comedy of manners unfurls in a cellist’s apartment in Mexico City. For an interview with a local television channel, musician Rosa (Rosa Estela Juárez Vargas) asks to use the seemingly tranquil flat of her friend Teresa (Teresita Sanchez). When the bumbling journalist Lázaro (Lázaro G. Rodríguez) and his cameraman Paco (Francisco Barreiro) arrive, the production is soon waylaid by a series of comically banal yet unexpectedly frustrating circumstances.
In Pereda’s wry, minimalist chamber comedy, shifting power dynamics within the ensemble are gently exposed, illuminating the tensions that run through relationships of all kinds, from fraught gender dynamics between those within the same artistic field, to the more intimate negotiations between neighbours and friends, while probing the intertwined realities—and costs—of artistic independence, particularly the refusal to conform.
The UK Premiere screening on Friday 27 November will be followed by an in-person Q&A with Nicolás Pereda.
Everything Else is Noise, dir. Nicolás Pereda, Mexico 2026, Spanish with English subtitles, 71 min.
