A heartbreaking human story exposing the surreal absurdity of the Israeli-Palestinian status quo, The Sea provoked a significant reaction in Israel when it won Best Film at the Israeli Film Academy’s Ophir Awards. Khaled (Muhammad Gazawi) is a Palestinian boy from the West Bank who dreams of seeing the sea. During a school trip to the beach, he is denied passage, due to an issue with his paperwork. Undeterred, he sneaks across the border at night, and heads for the coast. Meanwhile, his father Ribhi (Khalifa Natour), an undocumented worker in Israel, abandons his construction site, in a desperate attempt to find his son.
