The mid-1950s — a clear gap in Polish architecture and art, is also noticeable in the case of ceramics. Although this field was not subjected to as much pressure from Socialism as painting or sculpture, the emphasis on folklore and tradition was also pronounced here. From the period of the October thaw, artistic ceramics began to develop on an unprecedented scale. New, original shapes appeared, and traditional forms received abstract and strongly stylized decorations. During the lecture, examples of Polish ceramics created in the most important centers with Wrocław, Gdańsk, Warsaw and Krakow at the forefront will be shown.
