Unlearning Empire begins with a poetic intervention by hn. Lyonga. In his poems, the writer and artist discusses the challenges that neighbors (s) face in a post-migrant society — between belonging, exclusion and the everyday negotiation of the taking of space. hn. Lyonga's texts provide poetic access to the questions that are then negotiated on a political and discursive level.
During a panel discussion, experts from London, Brussels, Paris and Berlin will address the question of what common demands arise from the decolonial efforts of various actors from these European metropolises. Based on specific local contexts, it is asked where experiences, strategies and political objectives overlap — and where differences persist. The aim is to make the connections between decolonial movements in different European cities visible and to explore what common language and common demands can arise as a result.
The evening thus combines an artistic-poetic perspective with an analytic-political examination of the city, migration and decolonization.
Organized by Decolonize Berlin e. V. in cooperation with House of World Cultures as part of the Heimat Festival for Plural Democracy
