Warp’s Providenza Ensemble Residency brings six artists into new territory: composing for a 30-piece string ensemble for the first time.
Loraine James, Puce Mary, Clarissa Connelly, Mabe Fratti, Kelman Duran and Mark William Lewis developed individual ten-minute works during residencies at the Corsican agricultural site of Providenza, under the guidance of Manchester Collective co-Artistic Director Rakhi Singh and New Zealand composer Karl Sölve Steven.
Their music spans electronic, experimental and contemporary composition, from James’s intricate electronic production to Connelly’s mythic, folk-influenced songwriting and Puce Mary’s industrial noise.
The six works premiere in our hall alongside Sinfonietta Cracovia, marking a new chapter for each artist and a rare meeting of electronic and experimental music with a full string ensemble.
