Another 17 years of activities within the Nowohuc Senior Academy are ahead!
The program of the solemn beginning of the academic year includes the presentation of indexes and the inaugural lecture: “The Known (Pole) in the Unknown (Asia): Gustaw Herling-Grudziński and Burma”.
In 1952 Gustaw Herling-Grudziński visited Burma. This famous Polish writer and intellectual visited one of the least known countries of Asia and left behind a diary Journey to Burma. Never before has someone so famous in Poland visited such a little-known place in Asia.
At the meeting, Mikhail Lubin will talk about how he tracked down the traces of the writer in Myanmar/Burma, what he discovered, what kind of country Burma was during the author's time and what it is now. And why the forgotten diary of Herling-Grudziński, a work very ambiguous and controversial, deserves a second life.
Michał Lubina: Burmese scholar, political scientist and cultural scholar.
