Join two former Members of Congress – one Democrat and one Republican – for a lively discussion of major themes in contemporary American politics.
This is an exciting opportunity for Year 12 and 13 students of A-level Politics to hear some of the critical questions and issues in US politics leap off the textbook page, as two former Members of the US House of Representatives – one Democrat, one Republican – share reflections from their direct experience at the heart of Washington D.C.
There are four chances during the week for schools to join Representatives Val Demings (Democrat, Florida's 10th district, 2017–2023) and Garret Graves (Republican, Louisiana’s 6th district, 2015–2025) to learn about their experiences as lawmakers and representatives of their communities in the United States Congress.
Each session features a conversation with a special academic guest, focussing on a particular problem in contemporary US politics (details below), and accompanied by a pre-recorded podcast to help students explore the subject in greater depth
Booking for in-person attendance has now closed but if you would like to participate in any of the sessions live online, or would like to receive any of the additional learning content, please email eccles-institute@bl.uk.
