We all have such a friend or acquaintance. We met on vacation, added each other on Facebook, but this someone posted so much that over time we quietly clicked “remove from friends”. Not everyone, or not everyone, is able to understand that the polite “let's exchange contacts” most often means “goodbye”.
On a holiday cruise, Peter and Debbie, a British couple with many years of experience, meet Elsa, a somewhat eccentric and high-profile American from Colorado. Despite her expressive views, which are not necessarily close to them, they cannot resist her charm. At the end of the tour, they say goodbye effusively, promising each other to keep in touch. Everything changes when a few months later Elsa unexpectedly pays them a visit.
The comedy “Delete from friends” is a current hit of the British scene. It premiered in 2020 at the Minerva Theatre in Chichester. After rave reviews from critics, it was decided to stage the play in London's West End, where it can be seen from January this year. The Polish premiere is also the first production outside the UK.
The play is written by Steven Moffat, a British screenwriter and television producer. He is best known for his TV series Doctor Who and Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch, for which he won an Emmy Award.
