Utopian surplus: narratives of the future of GDR literature

Venue: Ranked Foyer - The GDR SciFi often served as a niche in which other things were told, imagined and paid less attention to by censors. The present was hidden in the future, while at the same time SciFi took on a form of external perspective on GDR society. The country was described and developed, grievances were named (disguised) and told of a society that had overcome exactly those grievances.

How did GDR science fiction imagine the future, which image of man was created and what became of it after the fall of the Wall? Which ideas carried on?
