On the occasion of the small jubilee we will show films created exclusively by Polish directors: “Wilczyca”, “Medium” and “Possession”.
This is a unique program, because Polish cinema has rarely been associated with horror over the years, and the genre itself was often disregarded by critics in Poland. During the marathon we will see a classic horror film inspired by folklore, a story with strong local threads and one of Andrzej Żuławski's most ambiguous films.
The screenings will be preceded by the introduction of Prof. Sebastian Jakub Konefał — a film scholar, lecturer at the Department of Film and Audiovisual Culture at the University of Gdańsk.
“Wilczyca” dir. Marek Piestrak, 1982 duration: 98 minutes
Kacper Wosiński returns to his estate, summoned to his dying wife Maryna. A woman leaves the world, cursing her husband and clutching a wolf's paw in her hands. Despite attempts to protect the woman's body, terror begins to circulate around the area, and Kacper gradually loses his senses.
“Medium” dir. Jacek Koprowicz, 1985 duration: 98 minutes
Commissioner Selin wakes up on the beach with no memory. People led by an incomprehensible force are heading to Sopot in 1933. After the murder of the owner of a pet store, an investigation begins, which connects modern events with a former family tragedy.
“Possession” dir. Andrzej Żuławski, 1981 duration: 127 minutes
Mark returns from a spy mission to West Berlin and discovers that his wife Anna is having an affair. The marriage crisis escalates, violence sets in, and the truth turns out to be far more disturbing than one might have assumed.
The film can be seen as a psychological drama about trauma, a political allegory of a divided world or a psychedelic monster movie.
The films contain scenes of mental and physical violence and elements of gore.
Movies without PJM translation and audio description. The hall is accessible to people with alternative motor skills — there is a driveway in the building. In the building there is a toilet for OZn. There are no solutions for people with sensory disabilities.
