“If you can't hear the lark song, then you won't notice it's gone.”
The words are those of Marco Broddes in the documentary 'The Wadden Sea Painter'. Marco is an artist and nature guide living on Fanø, and since he was very young he has had this “weird inner urge to draw the birds” that he sees when you run around the country's shores.
The documentary follows the passionate nature communicator in his work with both the art and the love of the Wadden Sea, designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. And precisely heritage is a central word in Marco's work. What stories are we passing on? What kind of world are our children going to inherit? What conversation are we going to have?
The film is produced and filmed in Fanø by journalist Lars Düwel, who has followed Marco's work for a period of three years. Lars, like Marco, lives on Fanø. As the film's soundtrack, the popular folk trio Stundom, who most recently won a DMA Roots in 2025, have added music to the film.
Learn more about the biodiversity crisis and what it takes for us to face a future where there is also room for nature. Following the film screening, there will be a live Q&A with Marco and Lars, where the audience can ask questions about both the film and Marco's work.
The film screening is a special event supported by the Danish Nature Conservation Association Copenhagen and their youth section FLOR, a youth movement for more wild nature and biodiversity. If you are under 30, there will be a discount on the ticket price.
