About the event

UK PREMIERE Vampires Surf

Dir. Jaleesa Vincent & Luka Raubenheimer

From multi-hyphenate surf creative Jaleesa Vincent and snake wrangling filmmaker Luka Raubenheimer comes this must-see, riotous romp of a fantasy surf film which combines stand out surfing from the likes of Jaleesa, Frankie Harrer, Caity Simmers & Kobe Hughes with creativity in equal measure. Here’s the story:

Three immortal vampire girls have spent centuries surfing beneath the moon. When fate changes, they leave the shadows behind and become legends amongst mortals. But the return of the Blood Moon summons them to Coffin Bay, where an ancient prophecy and a powerful evil will decide their future. Spooky, funny and heartfelt, Vampires Surf is a timeless tale of surfing, friendship and following your destiny—even if it takes an eternity.

This is an ode to joy and an education in the relentless DIY spirit that exists in surfing.

Accompanied by a very special Q&A with Jaleesa Vincent & Luka Raubenheimer

UK PREMIERE Bulleji Boys

Dir. Shahbano Farid

In Bulleji, a fishing village on the edge of Karachi, a 22-year-old fisherman’s son dreams of a life his father cannot picture for him: one on a surfboard. Attiq Rehman is caught between the duty inherited from generations of fishermen before him and the pull of his own ambition - to put Pakistani surfing on the map through the grassroots Surfers of Bulleji club he runs with his friends. This is a beautiful and life affirming portrait exploring duty, desire and the grit it takes to imagine a life no one around you has lived.

“The desire to move forward, to belong, and to be seen, is not bound by geography, but shared across it,” explains Shahbano of the heart of her film. These are words to live by.

The evening is accompanied by The Shorties shortlist films – the very best short films from homegrown filmmakers.
