Viktoria Mullova violin ; Alasdair Beatson fortepiano

In an early review of the Tenth Violin Sonata Op. 96, the critic of the Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung wrote that ‘it might be concluded [from this work] that excellent Beethoven is now contented, sociable and cheerful.’ Viktoria Mullova, playing on gut strings, and Alasdair Beatson on a fine fortepiano preface Beethoven’s sublime sonata with two other works hallmarked by their tonal warmth, melodic charm and expressive geniality.
