When do you really get sick and who decides?
Medical technology is becoming ever more sensitive, and at the same time pushing the boundaries of what counts as disease. It can lead to overdiagnosis, with more and more being needlessly done to patients without it speeding them up or giving them a better life. This is not only costly to society, but also a waste of the scarce resources of the health service.
PhD Alexandra Brandt Ryborg Jønsson and Professor John Brodersen are behind the book “Soon we are all patients”, where they delve into overdiagnosis from a medical and social science perspective. In this talk about overdiagnosis, they start from the book and tell what overdiagnosis is, why it occurs and what consequences it has for the individual and for society.
About Vild med sciencenVild med science is a series of academic lectures at Kvarterhuset. The lecture series is supported by the libraries of the City of Copenhagen and the Amager Øst Local Committee.
