Vincent Wants to the Sea is a brilliant and extremely affectionate road comedy in which three young protagonists struggle with mental problems, the reluctance of society and the lack of love. Vincent, Marie and Alex take their lives into their own hands as they embark on a joyous journey across Europe.
The film was showered with numerous awards for acting, directing and screenwriting, the crowning of which was the double German Film Award. “Vincent wants to the sea” entertained more than a million viewers delighted with the film in German cinemas.
Vincent, in his twenties, suffers from Tourette's syndrome, manifested by nervous tics, unrestrained shouting of profanity and behavior that indicates that his nerve cells are being attacked by a bunch of clowns every now and then. When his beloved mother dies, he ends up in a mental institution. A father, a politician fighting for re-election, reckons that a sick son would have prevented him from campaigning. At the center, the boy meets the pedantic Alex, suffering from obsessive neurosis, and the veteran of anorexia Marie. The lonely Vincent, left on the sidelines of the unfolding life, decides to escape from the plant and go to the sea, where he would like to scatter his mother's ashes. Together with his friends, the boy steals the car of the head of the resort and sets off with them towards the Mediterranean Sea. This is how their great journey to freedom begins. They are happy and can finally think about what is most important to them: love, friendship, responsibility...
“Vincent wants to the sea” is a warm story about the realization of dreams. Tics and “crazy” behavior of the characters make the characters laugh, but do not make the heroes laugh. In addition to the dynamic direction and beautiful pictures of the Alps, the film features the clever acting of the three main characters. The young people played by them are full-blooded characters, showing real emotions. Especially memorable is the anorexic Marie, played by Karoline Herfurth, known for her roles in “Fragrance” and “Lector”.
