“A multidimensional story about Violetta Villas — one of the most fascinating and mysterious figures of Polish culture, whose talent and passion brought to the biggest stages of Paris and Las Vegas. It is also a film about a woman thirsting for love and a mother consumed by fame. The title role was played by Sandra Drzymalska, one of the most talented young actresses, awarded the “Polityka” Passport and the award for the best actress at FPFF in Gdynia. Next to her, the cast included: Jowita Budnik (“Papusza”), Mateusz Banasiuk (“Furioza”), Borys Szyc (“Doll”), Cezary Łukaszewicz (“The Peasants”), Dorota Kuduk (“Warszawianka”) and Christo Szopov (“Karbala”). On the soundtrack of the film we will hear the greatest hits of Violetta Villas in completely new arrangements by Marcin Masecki. One of the most recognizable and moving pieces from her repertoire “Do Ciebie, Mamo” was sung by Michał Szpak, in an unusual duet with the archival voice of a Polish diva.
About the event
Before becoming Violetta Villas, she is Czesława Gospodarek, a young woman dreaming of a great career. At the beginning of the 60s, together with his son, he decides to go to conquer the big world and moves to Warsaw to start a new life there. Despite numerous adversity, he does not give up the fight for stage performances and still believes that great success is just around the corner. It is then that she takes the nickname Violetta Villas and her career gets wings. Her phenomenal voice elevates her from the province to the biggest stages of Las Vegas. Unfortunately, behind the glow there is a growing dependence, fear, loneliness and pressure from the authorities of the People's Republic. Everything is watched by a growing son who sees the artist mother slipping away from the world, her family and herself. It's a story about the price of dreams, about the love that's missing, and about a boy who has to grow up faster than he should.” Source KINO ŚWIAT
