About the event
First November 2026, the exhibition European Art 1300-1800 closes after more than 15 years — to reopen with new works and narratives in autumn 2027. In the coming years, SMK's other permanent exhibitions will also have to be rethought and renewed.
But why do exhibitions need to be rethought right now? What sweeping changes need to happen? What size is an art collection? And what significance does it have for our shared history?
All this — and much more — you can learn more when SMK Director Astrid la Cour, museum inspector Michèle Seehafer and conservation manager Pil Rasmussen in conversation with Tore Leifer, editor at Frederiksborg, go very close to the heart of the museum: the art collection and the visions for the new collection exhibitions. Exhibitions that must be vibrant, dynamic, changeable and in constant contact with the world and contemporary times of which we are a part.
Listen as they unfold the thoughts behind the new collection exhibitions and the extensive work behind them.
Together, we also take a closer look at the architectural changes that open cracks to earlier times, and tell stories about works that have hung in castles and ministries, but have now been brought home to SMK to be included in the new exhibitions.
