Dalida was more than a voice. It was light and dark, grace and abyss — chanson and pop, disco and prayer. Vladimir Kornéev came across her art for the first time at the age of twenty. Back then, a single song was the trigger for him to go the chanson singer's path himself.
Today, Kornéev tells his own story for the first time: from birth in Georgia to fleeing to Germany, from falling silent after the violence of war to rescue in music and on the theatre stage.
Dalida's songs become stages of this journey — and mirrors of a life between loss, a new beginning and the rediscovery of the voice. Born in 1987, in the year of Dalida's death, Kornéev meets an invisible counterpart in her.
Her songs are about his life — about exile, love, home and stage. The evening combines poetic monologues and cinematic scenes of a moving coming-of-age story with Dalida's great chansons — from Pour ne pas vivre seul and Je suis malade to Salma ya Salama, Mourir sur scène and Laissez-moi danser.
Personal memory becomes universal: Who am I? Where do I belong? And what gives meaning to my voice? The arrangements, developed together with Markus Syperek, combine the core of French chanson with cinematic sound range:
Markus Syperek on piano, Jo Gehlmann on guitar, James Scannell on saxophone, Andreas Henze on bass, Leonardo von Papp on drums and Philipp Kullen on Arabic percussion draw a musical Paris that smells of the Mediterranean and the Orient.
With great vocal and scenic intensity, Vladimir Kornéev brings Dalida's legacy into today — as a moving plea for courage, belonging, freedom and the healing power of music.
A declaration of love to those who teach us life — and to love that can make wings out of wounds.
