VOLVER — RETURN — original flamenco show
Volver — return. To arrive at a place from which one once left or left. Return is inextricably linked with a sense of passing time. We return to the places, things, people and events that were important to us. Every return is a personal journey — an attempt to look at what was and what is. It is an encounter with memory, a search for meanings, a sense of change and a search for grains of permanence.
We return to childhood, to the family home, to people and places. We return to interrupted activities, the realization of once abandoned passions, to the books that were put aside. We return, recovering ourselves.
But the return also has a more universal dimension. It is part of the rolling circle of history and one of the experiences that define the identity of the modern world. It is also the apotheosis of life—the point at which birth and death become one and the same return to the space from which we come.
Volver is a personal story of returning to yourself and to your true emotions. About trying to return to the lost vision of the world, to one's own values, to what, despite the passage of time, remains really important.
As art should enter into dialogue with contemporary reality, the show also touches on the questions we ask ourselves today — as people witnessing the breakdown of the existing world order.
What is worth returning to? What gives us hope? Like Theseus in the labyrinth, do we need a thread to find our way to the ball — to our own “I”, guarded by the watchful eye of the Minotaur? And who will give us this thread?
These questions become the canvas of a spectacle narrated in the most universal language — the language of movement, dance and sound.
The starting point for the script was the copla “Volver”, a bolero used in Pedro Almodóvar's film of the same name.
Flamenco and contemporary dance techniques will intersect on the stage, creating a language of movement where tradition meets modernity. The musical layer consists of works of the Baroque period, original elaborations of flamenco music and compositions by the young composer and guitarist Rainer Maria Nero.
