We invite you to the series In Black and White, which aims to recall valuable films, not seen in cinema or television repertoires. We want to bring back to the audience the pre-war classics, often Polish, which survived the turmoil of history and post-war works.
Based on Stanisław Dygat's prose, the film adaptation of Haas is seemingly a melodrama about inaccessible, unrealizable love. In reality, however, it is an apocalyptic in its rich symbolism, the story of the end of a world that is definitively brought to an end by the Second World War. The power of Hasa's cinema (lies) in the charge of disturbing understatement, suspended in strange timelessness and spacelessness, in a world without properties. Is love possible in such a situation? “Farewells” can be read as (...) a story of longing for love.
Quote behind the website.
“Farewells” is still an unusual love story, with an unusual pair of lovers and the first post-war hit released by cinema, sung by Sława Przybylska with the unforgettable song “Remember, it was autumn” in the background.
